Your Journal Guru Got This Wrong

journaling practice mindset shift morning routine personal growth self-expression Dec 06, 2025

Everyone tells you the same thing:

“Write 3 gratitudes.

Write 3 goals.

Write 3 affirmations.”

And that’s why most people quit journaling after a week.

Not because they’re inconsistent

because the method is lifeless.

Your journal was never meant to be a checklist.

It was meant to be a portal.

The day I dropped the formula, my entire relationship with myself changed.

My Real Practice

Before I write a single word, I set the stage:

One deep breath in.

One slow breath out.

A softening of my mind.

A widening of my heart.

Then I ask:

“What wants to come through me today?”

Some days it’s one line.

Some days it’s a river.

Every day it feels alive.

Some mornings I write a sentence.

Some mornings I pour my whole soul out.

Every morning, it feels alive.

My Four Anchors (Not Rules)

• Real gratitudes: the ones that move me, not the forced ones.

• Identity-led goals: who I’m being today, not what I’m doing.

• Soft intentions: invitations, not demands.

• One word to embody:  my frequency for the day. Examples include: fun, creative, love, etc. it will speak to you personally.

That’s it.

No boxes.

No pressure.

Just truth.

This Is Freedom, Not Homework

Your journaling doesn’t have to be neat.

It doesn’t have to be structured.

It doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s practice.

It only has to feel like you.

Let your handwriting get messy.

Let your thoughts wander.

Let your soul speak.

Give yourself permission to Color outside the lines.

that’s where the transformation actually happens.

Why It Works

Because it reconnects you to yourself.

Because you start your day from alignment, not obligation.

Because identity shifts when expression is free.

This routine didn’t just improve my mornings

it changed my life.
