The Daily Debrief: How Awareness Becomes Change
Jan 23, 2026
A few years ago, I snapped at a customer service agent.
Nothing dramatic. No shouting match. Just a sharp tone. Impatience. The kind of short-tempered reaction that leaves a bad taste in your mouth long after the call ends.
I remember hanging up and thinking:
I never want to feel like that again.
It felt gross
It felt mean
It felt out of congruency to my essence
Most of us know that feeling.
The edge that shows up when we’re tired.
The impatience that leaks out when we feel rushed or unseen.
The version of ourselves that isn’t who we want to be, but appears anyway.
That moment led to a simple practice that changed everything for me. I’m sharing it today with an open heart in hope that it support you too.
I call it
The Daily Debrief
At the end of each day, I reflect.
Not in a performative way. Not with lofty goals. Just with an open ear and honesty, it’s an exercise in presence…
What went well today?
Where did I lose my patience?
What drained me?
What helped?
If this same situation showed up tomorrow, how would I want to meet it?
This isn’t an exercise I passivity, it’s an exercise in training.
When you take a few minutes at night to replay the day *note: not to judge yourself, but to see it clearly you begin to notice patterns. You see what shortens your fuse. You see what steadies you. And slowly, almost quietly, your choices the next day start to shift.
Not perfectly. Incrementally, 1% better everyday.
If you’ve ever found yourself snapping at someone you didn’t mean to, losing patience with people you love, or feeling disappointed by your own reactions, this is an invitation.
Try reflecting at the end of the day.
One open mind. A few questions. No performance.
If you do that for a year, you won’t be in the same place. Because tomorrow’s decisions are shaped by tonight’s awareness.
And over a lifetime, that compounds into something bigger than self-improvement.
It becomes a life shaped by your own lived wisdom applied, adjusted, and refined one day at a time.
With love,
